This week, the Notice of Proposed Property Taxes was mailed. But what if you disagree with the tax amount on your notice? If you are in Duval County, go online to www.coj.net/pa, then click on Database Search. Bring up your property record to make sure the square footage is correct. Also make sure the number of rooms and lot size are correct. If prices in your area are holding steady or declining in value, make sure you are not being over assessed. Assessed value and market value are not the same, so if you know for a fact that homes like yours in the neighborhood have sold for less than what you are being assessed you need to take that information to the Property Appraiser’s Office. You only have 25 days after the notice was mailed to file a petition with the Value Adjustment Board (VAB) so don’t wait!
